The US Mission in Nigeria has warned that anyone guilty of corruption will be denied entry into the United States, regardless of wealth or status.

The United States Mission in Nigeria has warned that individuals found guilty of corruption will be denied entry into the US, no matter their wealth or social standing.

The Mission made this known on Monday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stressing that its anti-corruption stance cuts across borders.

“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving US visas,” the statement read.

The move underscores Washington’s commitment to global anti-corruption efforts, aligning with President Donald Trump’s broader immigration and visa restrictions.

In recent years, the US has imposed multiple visa bans on Nigerians. In 2020, restrictions were placed on immigrant visas, while in May 2023, visa bans targeted individuals who undermined Nigeria’s general elections.

Since assuming office in January 2025, Trump has intensified immigration reforms, including visa clampdowns and mass deportations. By late January, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported that about 3,690 Nigerians could face removal from the country.
