- President Tinubu details how he personally directed the multi-agency operation that led to the rescue of 38 abducted Christian worshippers in Kwara State.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given a detailed account of how he personally supervised and coordinated the security operation that led to the rescue of all 38 Christian worshippers abducted from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Kwara State.
Tinubu, in a statement posted on his verified X handle, said the rescue was the direct outcome of a centralised strategy he activated immediately after receiving intelligence on the abduction. According to him, he cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in Johannesburg to remain in Abuja and take full command of the operation.
“You will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to enable me to coordinate the security efforts at home. Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued,” the President said.
Explaining his approach, Tinubu said he established a round-the-clock command channel with field commanders, intelligence chiefs, and the heads of operational units, enabling real-time decisions as the rescue unfolded. He noted that this same structure also facilitated the recovery of 51 students abducted from a Catholic school in Niger State.

The President said the success of the operations reflects his administration’s insistence on faster response times, tightened intelligence sharing, and simultaneous pressure on multiple criminal camps across the country.

“Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety, and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” he added.
Tinubu commended security agencies for executing the strategy with precision and assured Nigerians that the government is upgrading national security architecture to make such coordinated rescues more frequent and more effective.
The rescue of the Kwara worshippers comes amid heightened concern over kidnappings in the North-Central region. Tinubu said additional deployments and expanded counter-terrorism actions are now underway to prevent similar incidents.
