14-Year-Old Qur’anic Pupil Killed in Kebbi Community

- Residents of Birnin Kebbi’s Illelar Yari area were thrown into mourning after a 14-year-old Qur’anic pupil was found dead, with police confirming the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect as investigations begin.
Residents of Illelar Yari (Old Prison) area in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State woke up on Monday to the tragic news of the death of a 14-year-old Qur’anic pupil from Hisbulrahim Talamai’a Sheikh Ibrahim Qur’anic School.
The father of the deceased, Hassan Guraguri, disclosed the incident to newsmen shortly before the funeral prayer.
According to him, his son, Salihu Hassan, was allegedly attacked around 6am by a 22-year-old resident of the area, identified as Jame Jidda.
Guraguri said the suspect called the victim out of the school premises under the pretence of sending him on an errand, only for the boy to later be found lifeless behind the school.

“We heard from other pupils around 7am that my son’s body was seen behind the school. We rushed there and then took him to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had died as a result of an attack,” the grieving father said.

He added that the funeral prayer was conducted at the school by Imam Muhammadu Nagujiya before the body was laid to rest at the Birnin Kebbi main cemetery.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said in a Monday statement that the suspect had already been arrested by officers of the Birnin Kebbi Division.
He noted that “an investigation has commenced to determine the motive behind the attack and ensure justice is served.”
