Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has declared that he is willing to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu does not win Edo State in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on AIT, Okpebholo said the All Progressives Congress (APC) has become the dominant political force in the state and faces “no serious opposition” ahead of the next general elections. He attributed the party’s growing strength to Tinubu’s rising popularity and the impact of his own early performance in office.

According to the governor, recent bye-election results in Esan reflect a political shift favouring the APC.
“Asiwaju is even more popular than me here now,” he said. “Edo people know that what I’m doing is because of Asiwaju’s impact. The people will thank him with their votes. If he does not win, I’d resign.”

Okpebholo stressed that his leadership style is rooted in grassroots engagement, shaped by political mentorship under the late Chief Tony Anenih.
“My style of politics is not thuggery; it’s grassroots,” he stated.

He also criticised former governor Godwin Obaseki, claiming that his performance in office has weakened his standing among Edo residents.
“His poor record will not make him come. No child or mother on the street will pray for Obaseki,” Okpebholo said.
