Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has formally left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), taking his core supporters along with him.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at a stakeholders’ meeting inside the Government House in Port Harcourt. This followed a closed-door consultation with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja the previous day.

Addressing party members and loyalists from both sides, Fubara said his decision was driven by the PDP’s inability to protect him during the recent political turmoil in the state, while the APC stepped in with support.

“The most important outcome of that meeting is that we now have full support to leave where we were because we didn’t get the protection we needed,” he said. “If President Tinubu had not intervened, there wouldn’t be a Siminalayi Fubara today.”
