Elon Musk has become the first person in history to amass a personal fortune exceeding $600 billion, according to Forbes, after a sharp increase in the valuation of his rocket company, SpaceX.
Musk, who owns an estimated 42% of SpaceX, saw his wealth rise by $168 billion to roughly $677 billion as of 8:00 p.m. on Monday. No other individual has ever reached $500 billion in net worth.
The rise comes as SpaceX considers a potential initial public offering (IPO) in 2026, which could value the company at as much as $1.5 trillion, according to an investor cited by Forbes. Representatives for Musk and SpaceX declined to comment. Even without an IPO, Forbes estimates Musk’s stake in SpaceX at approximately $336 billion, making it his single most valuable asset.
Musk’s second-largest holding is Tesla, where his 12% stake is valued at about $197 billion, excluding stock options from his 2018 compensation package that were partially voided by a Delaware court ruling in January 2024. Forbes estimates those options at around $69 billion, pending a Delaware Supreme Court decision on Musk’s appeal.

Additionally, Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI Holdings, is reportedly in talks for new funding at a valuation of $230 billion—over double its previous valuation of $113 billion following the merger with social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Musk owns about 53% of xAI Holdings, estimated at $60 billion.

Musk’s wealth milestone reflects a remarkable rise over the past five years. In March 2020, his net worth was $24.6 billion. By August 2020, Tesla’s stock surge pushed him past $100 billion. He became the world’s richest person for the first time in January 2021, with nearly $190 billion. Subsequent milestones followed quickly: $200 billion in September 2021, $300 billion in November 2021, $400 billion in December 2024, and $500 billion in October 2025.
Currently, Musk holds a commanding lead of $425 billion over the world’s second-richest person, Google co-founder Larry Page, whose fortune is about $252 billion. Just $23 billion shy of $700 billion, Musk’s next financial milestone could arrive sooner than expected.
