‘Be Careful’ — Sheikh Gumi Warns FG on Foreign Security Support to Fight Terrorists

• Islamic scholar Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi has cautioned Nigeria against accepting foreign security assistance from countries or groups with questionable records.

Islamic scholar Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi has raised concerns over Nigeria’s reliance on foreign support to address rising security challenges.

In a statement shared on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, Gumi acknowledged that Nigeria needs help to tackle threats but warned that the source of such assistance is critically important.

“The argument is simple: do we need help? Yes, every nation needs help for its security,” he said.

However, he cautioned against accepting aid from countries or actors with records of racism, religious intolerance, disregard for international law, or involvement in genocidal activities.

According to him, partnerships with such actors could worsen Nigeria’s security situation, deepen injustice, fuel resentment, and damage the nation’s moral standing.

Gumi emphasized that security collaborations should be guided by ethics, justice, and respect for human rights.

He urged Nigerian leaders to carefully evaluate both the immediate benefits and long-term consequences of foreign involvement in national security matters.

He concluded by warning that desperation should not force the country into alliances that contradict basic human values, stressing that sustainable peace requires partnerships aligned with justice and lawful conduct.
