The Imo State Police Command has dismissed three of its operatives following allegations of kidnapping, armed robbery and car snatching.

The dismissed officers — ex-Sgt Gift Ekwueme, ex-Sgt Ikechukwu Eto and ex-Cpr Divine Okwuaru — are currently being detained at the police headquarters in Imo State and are expected to be arraigned in court.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the development on Friday, stating that the officers were dismissed after being found guilty at an orderly room trial.

“Yes, the incident happened, and after we received the complaint, the police swung into investigation.

“They were arrested, detained, faced an orderly room trial, and after they were found guilty, they were dismissed and the Imo CP has ratified it. They are now ex-Policemen. They will be arraigned in the law court for prosecution,” Okoye said.

According to police findings, the former officers allegedly kidnapped and extorted Mr Obinna Egbu in Owerri on February 8, 2026. They were accused of posing as operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, alongside a civilian driver identified as Alex Chukwu, and extorting ₦1.7 million at gunpoint.

Okoye noted that the dismissal serves as a strong warning to all officers within the command. He added that the new Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, has made it clear that corruption, high-handedness and professional misconduct will not be tolerated.

The spokesperson said the commissioner has vowed to deal decisively with any officer found wanting, stressing that the development has sent shockwaves through the command.
