The Federal Government has announced Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays in observance of this year’s Easter celebration. The declaration covers Good Friday and Easter Monday, two significant dates in the Christian calendar.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, congratulating Christians in Nigeria and across the diaspora. He urged citizens to reflect on the values of selflessness, forgiveness, love, and tolerance, as exemplified by Jesus Christ.
Tunji-Ojo also called for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, noting that Easter serves as a reminder of the importance of community and national togetherness.
