Cancer is one of the leading health challenges affecting millions of people worldwide. It occurs when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably in the body, damaging tissues and organs. While some cancers are linked to genetics, many cases are connected to everyday lifestyle habits and environmental exposure.

What Causes Cancer in Men and Women?

Several factors can increase the risk of developing cancer in both men and women:

1. Smoking and Tobacco Use

Cigarettes, cigars, shisha, and smokeless tobacco contain harmful chemicals that damage body cells. Smoking is strongly linked to lung cancer, throat cancer, mouth cancer, bladder cancer, and more.

2. Excessive Alcohol Consumption

Heavy alcohol intake increases the risk of liver cancer, breast cancer, mouth cancer, and colorectal cancer. Combining alcohol with smoking makes the danger even greater.

3. Unhealthy Diet

Diets high in processed foods, sugary drinks, burnt meat, and unhealthy fats may contribute to cancer development. Low intake of fruits and vegetables also reduces the body’s natural defense system.

4. Lack of Physical Activity

A sedentary lifestyle can lead to obesity, which is associated with several cancers, including breast cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer.

5. Exposure to Harmful Chemicals

Frequent exposure to pesticides, industrial chemicals, smoke, asbestos, and pollution may increase cancer risk over time.

6. Viral Infections

Certain infections such as HPV (Human Papillomavirus), Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C can increase the likelihood of developing cervical cancer, liver cancer, and other forms of cancer.

7. Excessive Sun Exposure

Too much ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can damage skin cells and increase the risk of skin cancer.
