President Bola Tinubu on Thursday celebrated three years in office, declaring that signs of recovery, resilience and national renewal are now visible across Nigeria following a series of economic reforms and infrastructure projects introduced by his administration.

The President, in a brief anniversary address, said difficult but necessary decisions had been taken since he assumed office in May 2023, insisting that the country was beginning to reap the benefits of those reforms.

As part of the anniversary activities, Tinubu commissioned over 20 strategic projects spread across the six geopolitical zones, covering sectors such as energy, healthcare, enterprise development, education and public works.

Among the projects unveiled were several Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facilities in Lagos, Abuja and Owerri, new medical complexes in federal teaching hospitals, emergency response centres, vaccine infrastructure projects and industrial development centres.

Tinubu said the projects were designed to improve healthcare delivery, reduce transportation costs, expand cleaner energy access and strengthen economic development across the country.

“These projects are not ceremonial symbols. They are evidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda is being felt in homes, businesses, schools and hospitals across our federation,” the President stated.

He added that a comprehensive scorecard of his administration’s achievements would be presented during the June 12 Democracy Day celebration.

Nigerians React

Despite the President’s optimistic assessment, many Nigerians flooded social media with criticism, arguing that economic hardship, insecurity and rising living costs continue to dominate daily life.

Reacting to the anniversary message, Good Governance is a Human Right wrote:

“On this day in 2023, you told Nigerians to their face ‘Go to hell and rot, I care not’. You removed fuel subsidy without any plan to curb the effects of it. Our economy is in shambles, you’ve borrowed more than past presidents put together, people die like chickens and you only…”

Bello commented:

“We for see videos and pictures of all this projects you mention, we Nigerians are tired of all this parable show us what you’ve done let the people in the rural areas feel it.”

“You pledged steady light, security and good governance. You didn’t mention those. My man, after this year, no come back that seat again. Go take care of your brain, you’re old.”

KEYS wrote:

“Mr President, Nigerians are struggling with hunger, inflation, insecurity, and rising living costs. This was a time for empathy and reassurance, not another long list of projects that many citizens cannot even feel in their daily lives.”

Another user, Nzeke Chinedu, posted:

“Three years later, Nigerians are still waiting for the ‘renewed hope’ to reflect in their daily lives. Inflation is biting hard, insecurity persists, and survival has become a full-time job for many citizens.”

Money Man added:

“Right from the first day you addressed us as president, Nigerians have not known peace. From kidnappings to banditry to hunger. You have failed as Nigeria’s president. Your government is the worst of them all.”

Famousvic questioned the government’s security efforts, writing:

“Thank you Mr President but where are the kidnapped victims across the country?? You mentioned almost everything but you left security issues which is the most important thing right now. Those children need to be saved first, leave all this talk for later abeg.”

“YOU ARE A MONUMENTAL FAILURE. You and your co travellers will be gone by this time next year.”

The reactions highlight the growing frustration among many Nigerians who say rising food prices, inflation, insecurity and unemployment continue to overshadow government achievements.

While the Tinubu administration insists its reforms are laying the foundation for long-term prosperity, many citizens argue that the promised benefits of the Renewed Hope agenda have yet to translate into meaningful improvements in their daily lives.
