Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has addressed the growing online buzz linking her to Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, dismissing dating speculation by insisting that the football star is “family” and not a romantic interest.

Speaking during an interview on the red carpet of the 2026 BET Awards, the singer was asked about Okoye, who has recently become one of Nigeria’s most talked-about footballers after going viral on social media for his performances and appearance.

When asked if she knew the Udinese goalkeeper personally, Tems smiled and replied, “Do I know him personally? I think I do.”

The interviewer then asked if she would consider making the first move on the footballer.

Laughing off the suggestion, Tems responded, “No, no, I don’t. I wish I did, though. No, no. We don’t shoot our shots here. We’re friends. We friend each other, we’re family. No shots.”

Asked once more to clarify the nature of their relationship, the award-winning singer maintained that there was nothing romantic between them.

“Yes, just family. Sisters and brothers. We don’t do that over here. Just family,” she added.
