The Nigerian Army has honoured soldiers wounded in the fight against insurgency with a special luncheon held at the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.
The event formed part of activities marking the 2026 Army Day Celebration and brought together injured troops, senior military officers and medical personnel to recognise the sacrifices made by soldiers during counter-terrorism operations under Operation Hadin Kai.
Speaking at the event, the Theatre Commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, represented by Air Vice Marshal Olushola Akinboyewa, described the gathering as a tribute to the bravery and resilience of wounded personnel.
He said the achievements recorded in the fight against terrorism came at a great cost, paid by soldiers who risked their lives to protect the country.
Addressing the injured troops, Abubakar said their wounds symbolised courage and unwavering commitment to Nigeria, assuring them that the military remained committed to their welfare and recovery.
He also paid tribute to fallen soldiers, pledging that their sacrifices and the well-being of their families would never be forgotten.
The Army further commended doctors, nurses and other medical personnel for their dedication to the treatment and rehabilitation of injured soldiers, while also recognising the support provided by the families of wounded troops.
Earlier, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Solomon Diwa, described the scars borne by the injured soldiers as “badges of honour,” assuring them that the Army would continue to prioritise their medical care and overall welfare.
The luncheon was organised to celebrate the dedication and sacrifice of personnel serving on the frontlines of Nigeria’s counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East.
