At least 30 people, including eight children, have been killed after suspected terrorists launched a deadly midnight attack on Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attackers reportedly invaded the community at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, opening fire on residents, setting houses ablaze and leaving scores dead, while several others sustained injuries.

The Secretary to the Village Head of Naridon, Mr. Dogon Rana, confirmed the attack in a telephone interview on Monday, describing it as the deadliest assault the community has witnessed.

According to him, 30 people have so far been confirmed dead, while four others are receiving treatment for critical injuries.

“We have confirmed the killing of 30 people, but we are afraid the death toll may rise because some of the injured are in critical condition,” Rana said.

He described the attack as a devastating tragedy, revealing that one family lost five children in a single night.

“There is someone in this village who lost five children in one night. The only surviving child is critically injured and fighting for his life. This is a tragedy that has thrown the entire community into mourning,” he said.

Rana also disclosed that his own house was among several buildings set ablaze by the attackers, while shops and other properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

He blamed the high casualty figure on the lack of a motorable road to the community, saying delayed emergency response made it difficult for residents to escape the attackers.

“There is no accessible road to our community. If our road had been motorable, the casualty figure would not have been this high because help would have reached us on time and many people could have escaped,” he added.

The community leader appealed to the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government and security agencies to urgently deploy more security personnel and construct an access road to the area.

Another resident alleged that 22 members of the Rana family were among those killed and claimed the attack lasted for about three hours without intervention despite nearby military formations.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
