Chelsea’s new signing Maxence Lacroix is set to wear the club’s No. 23 shirt after completing his move to Stamford Bridge.
The jersey becomes available following the expected departure of defender Trevoh Chalobah, who is closing in on a transfer to Serie A side Como.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development in a post on X on Sunday.
“Maxence Lacroix will wear the No. 23 shirt at Chelsea following the completion of his move. The number becomes available as Trevoh Chalobah closes in on a transfer to Como,” Romano wrote.
He added that Chalobah is now on the verge of completing his move to the Italian club, paving the way for Lacroix to inherit the shirt number.
Lacroix joins Chelsea after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s dependable central defenders during his spell at Crystal Palace.
The French defender is expected to strengthen Chelsea’s backline as new manager Xabi Alonso continues rebuilding the squad ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, Chalobah’s move to Como is nearing completion, bringing an end to his time at Stamford Bridge as he prepares for a new challenge in Italian football.
