The Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has removed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 election.

VerseNews reports that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had contested the election as a candidate for the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and was initially declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Meanwhile, APC’s Nasir Yusuf Gawuna was declared the winner by the court.

The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal after its proceeding today declared Nasir Yusuf Gawuna the winner of the March 18 election.

The tribunal invalidated 165,663 votes from Abba Yusuf’s total, citing that the affected ballot papers lacked the necessary stamps or signatures.

APC’s Nasir Yusuf Gawuna: 890,705 votes.

NNPP’s Abba Kabir Yusuf: 853, 939 Votes

Police Declared 24-Hours Curfew After Tribunal Ruling

A 24-hour curfew has been imposed in Kano State after the election petitions tribunal ruled to remove the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, personally signed the statement announcing the curfew and stated that security forces have been deployed to enforce it.

The curfew was imposed to maintain law and order in the state following the tribunal’s judgment. It is in effect from 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, to 6:00 PM on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

Violators of the curfew will face arrest and legal consequences.

The police commissioner urged Kano State residents to remain law-abiding and assured them that security forces would maintain order.

There is reported apprehension in the state due to the tribunal’s judgment, with residents taking precautions such as closing shops and businesses out of fear of potential unrest.
