BREAKING: INEC Declares APC’s Oyebanji Winner of Ekiti Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election after securing a landslide victory across all 16 local government areas of the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
Oyebanji was returned elected after polling 319,224 votes to defeat his closest rivals, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 40,533 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who garnered 12,872 votes.
The Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, announced the result in the early hours of Sunday at the INEC State Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
Declaring the result, Oladiji said:
“Therefore, I, Adenike Oladiji, the Returning Officer for the 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election, hereby declare that Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is duly elected and returned as Governor of Ekiti State.”
According to INEC, Ekiti State has 988,251 registered voters, while 384,940 voters were accredited for the election.
A total of 382,109 votes were cast, out of which 375,777 were valid votes.
The APC candidate recorded a clean sweep across the state’s 16 local government areas, including Efon Local Government Area, the home council of PDP candidate Olumayokun Oluyede.
In Efon LGA, the APC secured 8,742 votes, while the PDP polled 2,051 votes and the ADC scored 201 votes.

The outcome of the election further consolidates the APC’s dominance in Ekiti State and gives Governor Oyebanji a fresh four-year mandate to continue his administration.

Political observers described the result as one of the most decisive governorship victories in the state’s history, with the incumbent governor recording comfortable margins across all local government areas.
The election was largely peaceful, with security agencies maintaining a strong presence throughout the voting and collation process.
With the victory, Oyebanji joins the list of Ekiti governors who have successfully secured a second term in office, strengthening the APC’s position ahead of future political contests in the South-West state.
