The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the credentials, personal particulars and nomination documents of presidential and vice-presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.

The publication, carried out in accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, gives members of the public the opportunity to scrutinise the educational qualifications, affidavits and other documents submitted by candidates before campaigns officially begin on August 19, 2026.

Below are the key details contained in the documents released by INEC.

President Bola Tinubu (APC)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Form EC9 shows that he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Business Administration from Chicago State University, United States, graduating with honours on June 22, 1979.

The documents also contain his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) records, showing he served in Oyo State between December 1982 and November 1983.

His employment history lists Mobil Nigeria Limited (1983–1992), Lagos State Government (1999–2007) and the Federal Government of Nigeria (2023–date).

The nomination form records his primary and secondary school entries as “0000,” while only his university qualification carries a graduation year.

His personal details list his date of birth as March 29, 1952, place of birth as Lagos, occupation as Politician, and residential address as Queen’s Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Vice President Kashim Shettima (APC)

Vice President Kashim Shettima’s documents trace his educational history from Lamisula I Primary School in the former North-Eastern State, where he studied between 1972 and 1978.

He later attended Government Secondary School, Potiskum, where he obtained his WAEC certificate in 1983, recording distinctions in Religious Knowledge and Economics.

Shettima earned a Second Class Upper degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri in 1989 before obtaining a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.

His NYSC certificate shows he served between October 1989 and October 1990.

Peter Obi (NDC)

INEC also published the credentials of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi.

According to the documents, Obi attended St. Augustine’s Primary School, completed his primary education in 1973, and proceeded to Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1978.

He later graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Philosophy in 1984, earning a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).

His nomination papers also include his NYSC certificate, showing he completed the programme between 1985 and 1986.

Obi described his occupation as a Public Servant.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (NDC Vice Presidential Candidate)

INEC also published the credentials and personal particulars submitted by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is contesting as the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

His academic certificates, affidavits and supporting documents form part of the nomination papers displayed by the commission for public scrutiny.

Atiku Abubakar (ADC)

The commission equally released the nomination documents of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

The documents include his educational credentials, personal particulars and sworn affidavits submitted alongside his nomination papers as required under the Electoral Act.

INEC also published the credentials of Rotimi Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the ADC.

The electoral commission further displayed the credentials of Onor Sandy Ojang, the presidential candidate of the Wike-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside his nomination documents.

Public Can Challenge Candidates’ Documents

INEC stated that Nigerians have the right to apply for Certified True Copies (CTCs) of candidates’ nomination forms and supporting documents.

The commission added that any person who believes a candidate submitted false information or forged documents may seek legal redress in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to commence on August 19, while campaigns for governorship and state assembly elections will begin later in line with the commission’s timetable.
