- Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is set for a major pay rise, with his monthly salary expected to increase to $100,000 (over ₦100 million), while also taking charge of Nigeria’s U-23 national team.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is set to receive a substantial salary increase after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) agreed on new terms for the Franco-Malian tactician.
Under the proposed agreement, Chelle’s monthly salary will rise from $50,000 to $100,000, equivalent to more than ₦100 million per month.
The announcement was made by NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko following a high-level meeting in Abuja involving officials from both the NFF and the NSC.
Dikko confirmed that the federation had reached an agreement to improve the coach’s remuneration package.
“We have agreed new terms with the coach. We have agreed to settle with the coach about his new remuneration; we are going to increase his money,” he said.
The new arrangement will also see the NFF take direct responsibility for paying the salaries of Chelle’s assistants.
Chelle to Also Handle Nigeria’s U-23 Team
In a major restructuring move, Chelle has also been handed responsibility for the country’s U-23 national team, popularly known as the Dream Team.
According to Dikko, the decision is aimed at creating a seamless transition between Nigeria’s youth teams and the senior national side.
“Instead of having different ideas, let’s have ideas from the U-23 to the Super Eagles,” Dikko explained.
The move comes as Nigeria seeks to rebuild its youth football structure after the U-23 Eagles failed to qualify for the last two Olympic Games.
The NSC said the decision forms part of a long-term strategy to build a competitive national team ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with a greater emphasis on integrating young talents into the senior setup.
For Chelle, the new deal not only rewards his recent success with the Super Eagles but also places him at the centre of Nigeria’s long-term football development plans. ⚽🇳🇬
