England were frustrated by a disciplined Ghana side as both teams played out a tense 0-0 draw in their Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite dominating possession and controlling large parts of the game, Thomas Tuchel’s men struggled to break down Ghana’s resilient defence, with captain Harry Kane enduring a quiet night in front of goal.
The result, however, sparked a frenzy online—not because of the football, but because of a pre-match claim made by Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam, popularly known as the “Devil of Wednesday.”
Ahead of the match, the self-styled witch doctor had claimed he would use his spiritual powers to stop Kane from hurting Ghana.
“I am working on Harry Kane. I know what work I must do to stop him against my country,” he had said before the game.
When Kane failed to score and England were held to a draw, social media users quickly declared that the “juju had worked.”
Memes and jokes flooded X (formerly Twitter), with many fans humorously crediting Ghana’s defensive masterclass—and the spiritualist’s prediction—for England’s inability to find a breakthrough.
Beyond the online banter, the result was a huge one for the Black Stars.
Following their opening 1-0 victory over Panama and the draw against England, Ghana now have four points and have mathematically secured a place in the knockout stage of the tournament with a game to spare.
England also progressed to the Round of 32, but the draw leaves Group L wide open heading into the final round of matches.
For now, though, football fans are talking less about tactics and more about one question:
Did Ghana’s “juju” really work on Harry Kane? 😄⚽🇬🇭🏆
