The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of 48 out of the 57 properties linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to the Federal Government.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, in a judgment delivered on Wednesday, ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) established sufficient grounds to justify the forfeiture, holding that Malami, members of his family and companies linked to the assets failed to prove that the properties were acquired through legitimate means.
The court stressed that the case was not about who owned the properties but whether the funds used to acquire them were lawful.
The EFCC had earlier obtained an interim forfeiture order over the assets in January 2026, estimating their total value at about N213.2 billion. The anti-graft agency said the properties are spread across the Federal Capital Territory, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna states, including hotels, schools, commercial plazas, factories, a university, filling stations and vast parcels of land.
While the court discharged the interim forfeiture order on nine of the assets, it has not immediately identified which specific properties were excluded.
