FULL LIST: Peter Mbah Approves Appointment of 101 New Aides

• Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the appointment of 101 new political aides, comprising seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants, with the appointments taking immediate effect.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the appointment of 101 Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants to serve in various capacities across the state government.

The appointments were announced on Monday in a public service announcement signed by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia. The announcement stated that the appointments take immediate effect.

The new appointees are divided into three categories: seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants.

Among the Special Advisers are Chief S.N.C. Nwagu, appointed to handle Conflict Resolution and Mediation; Hon. Dr Fidelis Odo, Inter-Governmental Affairs and Co-ordination; Augustine Okoli, Policy Affairs and Analysis; Hon. Pedro Nwankwo, Stakeholders Relations and Community Affairs; Chimezie Nkwuo, Economic Development; Chief Vitalis Okonkwo, Grassroots Coordination; and Peter Andy Omeje, Commerce and Business Development.

The six Senior Special Assistants include Rachael Okonkwo, Film and Creative Industry Development; Barr. Okey Ude, Inter-Party and Mobilisation; Hon. Chinedu Chukwunwike, Party Monitoring; Barr. Peter Chukwujekwu Ogbe, Legal and Regulatory Compliance; Chukwudi Ozoeluba, Boundary and Land Dispute Resolution; and Frank Udemezue, Small and Medium Enterprise Development.

The larger portion of the appointments went to Special Assistants, whose portfolios cover areas including environmental protection, market sanitation, infrastructure, youth development, women mobilisation, community engagement, public communication, technology, sports, security intelligence and rural development.

Among the Special Assistants are Hon. Alachi Aaron Onu, Forest Protection and Conservation; Dr Okwoigwe Modestus Ndubuisi, Health Facility Maintenance; Mrs Eucharia Anunobi, Women Mobilisation for Enugu-North Zone; Hon. Okwudili Onuora, Security Intelligence; and Chukwudi Nwatu, Social Media.

Other portfolios include Civic Education and Voter Awareness, Road Infrastructure Maintenance, Humanitarian Band and Entertainment, Non-Indigene Relations, Cooperative Development and Empowerment, Digital Innovation, Gender Coordination and Empowerment, Project Monitoring and Government Communication.

A political scientist based in Enugu, Dr Ifeanyi Nnamani, interpreted the appointments involving Inter-Party Affairs, Voter Awareness and Grassroots Mobilisation as potentially connected to preparations for the forthcoming general elections.

“The spread of these appointments, particularly the inclusion of specialists in youth engagement, women mobilisation, and inter-party relations, is a classic pre-election strategy,” Nnamani said.

He added that the appointments could strengthen party structures at the ward level and help communicate government policies to voters.

That interpretation is the political scientist’s assessment; the government announcement itself lists the appointees and their assigned responsibilities but does not state that the appointments were made for electoral purposes.

The latest appointments come after the Enugu State Government announced another set of 23 Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants in August 2026.
