- A viral video allegedly showing members of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s campaign team throwing loaves of bread to residents during a campaign event in Ekiti State has sparked criticism online, with many Nigerians accusing politicians of exploiting poverty and hunger for political gain.

A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread reactions after allegedly showing members of the campaign team of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, throwing bread to residents during a campaign event ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The footage, which has attracted significant attention online, shows individuals scrambling to collect loaves of bread tossed from moving campaign vehicles branded with the logo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the video, residents can be seen running after the convoy and competing to grab the bread as the vehicles moved through the area.
The incident has generated criticism across social media platforms, with many users condemning what they described as the use of food and poverty as political tools during election campaigns.
Several commenters argued that such acts reflect the growing economic hardship facing many Nigerians and accused politicians of taking advantage of vulnerable citizens for electoral support.
The development comes amid ongoing public debates over the use of incentives and material gifts during political campaigns across the country.
The viral clip also drew comparisons with a recent controversy involving the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
A separate video that circulated online following the recent APC National Convention in Abuja showed MC Oluomo distributing cash to a group of women at the event.
In the footage, the NURTW leader, dressed in APC attire, was seen counting and handing out cash reportedly amounting to ₦3,000 per person to individuals gathered around him.

While the exact purpose of the money could not be independently verified, reports suggested it may have been intended as mobilisation support for attendees at the convention.
The convention itself was not without controversy, as confusion reportedly broke out at the venue following an incident involving security operatives.
Videos shared online showed some APC supporters running for safety and gasping for air after tear gas was allegedly fired during the gathering at Eagle Square, Abuja.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Governor Oyebanji’s campaign organisation nor the APC had issued an official statement regarding the viral bread-distribution video.
The footage, however, has continued to fuel conversations about political campaigning, voter welfare, and the impact of economic hardship on electoral participation in Nigeria.
