The Ondo State House of Assembly and its Speaker have decided to withdraw their appeal that was filed before the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

VerseNews reports that this appeal was against the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had halted the planned impeachment of the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Initially, the Ondo State House of Assembly and its Speaker had questioned the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in Abuja to handle the matter. They had appealed against the court’s ruling that had put a stop to the planned impeachment of the deputy governor.

During the proceedings on Thursday, Remi Olatobura, the counsel for the Speaker and the Assembly, informed the three-member panel of Justices of the appellate court that he had received instructions from his clients to withdraw the appeal.

Olatobura, a senior lawyer, informed the court that the parties involved in the matter have reached a political solution to their problems. They have signed an agreement to withdraw the appeal.

According to Olatubora, the appeal is being withdrawn in the interest of peace and as part of the agreement reached by the parties involved.

The respondents in the appeal have affirmed that they received the notice of withdrawal and clarified that they did not oppose it.

Consequently, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who presided over the three-member panel, dismissed the appeal as it had been withdrawn by the appellants.

On October 3, the Ondo Assembly and its Speaker filed an appeal against the ex-parte orders made by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja on September 26. These orders restrained the Ondo State Governor, its Chief Judge, the House of Assembly, its Speaker, and others from proceeding with their planned impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, pending the determination of a pending motion on notice for interlocutory injunctions.
