- Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation Afenifere has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that the country is facing deeper economic hardship, insecurity and unemployment three years after he assumed office.

The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organisation, Afenifere, has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, claiming that Nigeria is worse off than it was when he took office three years ago.
The group made its position known in a statement titled “Tinubu’s Third Year Report: Summum Malum or Summum Bonum”, signed by its leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and National Publicity Secretary, Prince Justice Faloye.
According to Afenifere, the administration has failed to deliver on its promises and has instead presided over worsening poverty, unemployment and insecurity across the country.
“Afenifere is fearful of the current course of our democracy and commiserates with Nigerian citizens following three years of the inauguration of this maladministration that has bred poverty, unemployment, mass killings and kidnappings, tampering with democratic federalism, subjugation of other arms of government, etc.,” the statement said.
The group argued that the primary responsibility of government is to guarantee the welfare and security of citizens, stressing that many Nigerians are currently facing severe economic and security challenges.
Referencing constitutional provisions, Afenifere stated that governments are expected to inspire confidence through prosperity, security and improved living conditions rather than fear, poverty and instability.
The organisation lamented that despite coming into office under the banner of the “Renewed Hope” agenda, many Nigerians are struggling with rising hardship and uncertainty.
It further accused the administration of failing to adequately address insecurity, corruption and economic stagnation.
According to the group, incidents of kidnappings, killings and attacks on communities continue to raise concerns about the country’s security situation.
“The nightmare of ultimate evil has become a reality under the APC administration, with teachers being beheaded, children being kidnapped, and villages ransacked and displaced,” Afenifere stated.

The group also renewed its call for the establishment of state and community policing, arguing that the current security architecture has proven inadequate in addressing growing security threats across various parts of the country.
Afenifere alleged that the government’s failure to restructure the security system has contributed to the persistence of violent crimes, including kidnappings and attacks on schools and rural communities.
The organisation concluded by expressing concerns about the direction of the country’s democracy and governance, while urging leaders to focus on policies capable of improving the welfare, safety and prosperity of Nigerians.
