FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive championship rings for the first time in history, alongside the iconic trophy and gold medals.
- FIFA has announced that the winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive championship rings for the first time in history, alongside the iconic trophy and gold medals.

FIFA has announced a historic change to the FIFA World Cup, revealing that the champions of the 2026 tournament will receive specially designed championship rings for the first time in the competition’s history, in addition to lifting the iconic World Cup trophy and receiving traditional gold medals.
The world football governing body made the announcement on Thursday ahead of Sunday’s World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
According to FIFA, the introduction of championship rings is aimed at bringing one of the most famous traditions in American sports to the world’s biggest football competition.
In a statement, FIFA said:
“In a momentous first for a FIFA competition, the tournament winners will also receive bespoke championship rings, bringing one of the most recognisable American sporting traditions to the global game.”
Limited Edition of 2,026 Rings
FIFA disclosed that only 2,026 championship rings will be produced, with the number chosen to commemorate the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The organisation explained that every ring will be individually numbered, making them exclusive collector’s items.
According to FIFA:
“Each ring will be part of a strictly limited edition of just 2,026 individually numbered pieces, a direct tribute to the tournament itself.”
Only 30 Rings Reserved for the Champions
Out of the total production, 30 championship rings have been reserved exclusively for members of the World Cup-winning team.
The remaining 1,996 rings will be made available to football fans around the world as officially licensed FIFA merchandise.
This means supporters will also have an opportunity to own a piece of World Cup history through the limited-edition collectibles.
Custom Design for the Winning Team
FIFA revealed that the championship rings will feature unique designs celebrating the tournament champions.
According to the governing body:
- One side of the ring will display the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy.
- The opposite side will be customised to reflect the identity of the winning nation.
- Every ring will be individually numbered.
- Each recipient will receive a custom-fitted ring.
- Every ring will come with an official certificate of authenticity.
The personalised design ensures that every member of the victorious team receives a unique keepsake commemorating their World Cup triumph.
Temporary Rings to Be Presented After the Final
FIFA also announced that the captain and head coach of the winning team will receive temporary championship rings immediately after Sunday’s final as part of the post-match celebrations.
The remaining rings will later be professionally customised to ensure a perfect fit before being officially presented to all eligible members of the championship-winning squad.
A Historic First for the FIFA World Cup
The introduction of championship rings marks another significant milestone in World Cup history, as FIFA adopts a tradition long associated with major American sports such as the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball.
For decades, FIFA World Cup winners have traditionally received only the famous World Cup Trophy and gold medals.
Beginning with the 2026 tournament, the champions will now also take home exclusive championship rings, adding another prestigious symbol of football’s biggest achievement.
With Spain and Argentina set to battle for the title on Sunday, the victorious team will become the first nation in World Cup history to receive FIFA’s newly introduced championship rings alongside football’s most coveted trophy.
