BREAKING: Multichoice Proceeds With DStv, GOtv Price Hike Despite Court Ruling
Multichoice - Dstv and Gotv

New DStv and GOtv price: Despite a court order, Multichoice Nigeria has implemented price hikes for its DStv and GOtv subscribers, citing reasons such as foreign exchange constraints and high electricity tariffs.

The company’s decision to proceed with the tariff increase has sparked controversy amid ongoing economic challenges.

Despite a recent court order restraining Multichoice Nigeria from raising its subscription rates, the popular Pay TV provider has gone ahead with the upward adjustment of prices for its DStv and GOtv subscribers.

VerseNews reports that Multichoice announced the price increase on April 24, with the new rates scheduled to take effect from May 1.

However, following an interim order from the competition and consumer protection tribunal (CCPT) in Abuja, Multichoice was instructed not to implement the price hike.

Despite this ruling, a check by this Online News Platform revealed that the company has proceeded with the tariff increase as planned, with the new prices now displayed and implemented on its official website.

For DStv subscribers, the Premium package now costs N37,000, up from N29,500, while the Compact Plus bouquet has increased to N25,000 from N19,800.

Similarly, GOtv subscribers will also experience price hikes, with the Supa+ and Supa packages now costing N15,700 and N9,600 respectively.

Multichoice cited reasons such as the foreign exchange crunch, high electricity tariffs, and the cost of running generators as factors necessitating the price review.

The Acting Chairman of the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Adamu Abdullahi, confirmed receipt of a letter from Multichoice explaining these reasons and stated that the commission would scrutinize them to understand their impact on the company’s operations.
