Court Fixes Date To Rule On INEC’s Request To Reconfigure BVAS

Justice Joseph Ikyegh of Appeal Court in Abuja has f1xed Wednesday March 8, to hear the application by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) used in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly election.

This Online New Media reports that the physical inspection of all the BVAS that was used for the presidential poll was adjourned by a three-member panel of the appellate court after the LP filed a fresh application.

The lead counsel to Obi and LP, Chief Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN argued that the physical inspection of the BVAS is important to evaluate the data store in it confirming the actual results of each candidates  from various polling units.

In disagreement to Ikpeazu’s request, the INEC’s lead counsel, Tanimu Inuwa prayed for court to reject the request on the ground that it will affect preparations for the Governorship and National Assembly elections scheduled on Saturday March 11, 2023.

Following the court motion, Ikyegh postponed the case till Wednesday, March 8.
