Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has petitioned the UN Inter-Parliamentary Union, alleging political victimization over her suspension after accusing Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment.

She called for international intervention, condemning the Senate’s actions as an attack on democracy and women in politics.

Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has taken her case to the UN Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in New York, demanding justice over her suspension from the Nigerian Senate.

VerseNews reports that she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of orchestrating her suspension without a fair investigation after she alleged sexual harassment against him.

Speaking at the IPU meeting at the UN headquarters, Akpoti-Uduaghan described her suspension as a case of political victimization and an attack on women’s representation in Nigerian politics.

“This is a clear case of political victimisation, punishment for speaking out against impunity, injustice and gender-based violence,” Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan said. “The Senate’s actions are assaults on democracy. My call for investigation into allegations of sexual harassment has been met with hostility instead of accountability.”

She called for international intervention, stressing that the Senate’s actions undermine democracy and accountability. Many Nigerians have also condemned her suspension, urging an independent probe.
