Ganduje Breaks Silence as Yilwatda Replaces Him as APC Chairman

Former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, has reacted to the appointment of Nentawe Yilwatda as his replacement, describing the move as “strategic and timely” while urging party members to support the new leadership.

Immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed full support for the newly-appointed party leader, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, calling his emergence “strategic and timely” for the future of the ruling party.

In a statement released Thursday night, Ganduje described Yilwatda’s appointment by the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) as a pivotal development, especially as the party braces for major political realignments.

Commending the decision, Ganduje stated that he has “profound confidence” in Yilwatda’s capacity to lead the party effectively and urged him to build on the legacy laid by past leaders, including himself and his predecessor, Abdullahi Adamu.

Having stepped down from the chairmanship due to health reasons, the former Kano State governor lauded the APC NEC and party organs for what he described as a “transparent and consensus-driven process” that produced the new chairman.

He also praised President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their “statesmanlike role and wisdom” during the leadership transition.

“Our President and Vice President have once again shown maturity and far-sightedness in the affairs of our great party,” Ganduje said. “Their commitment to ensuring cohesion and stability within the APC is commendable, and I urge all stakeholders to rally around the new leadership to deliver on the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Ganduje called on the National Working Committee (NWC), NEC, state chapters, youth and women wings, and other stakeholders to give “full cooperation and unwavering support” to the new chairman, emphasizing that “unity, discipline, and loyalty” must remain the party’s guiding principles.

“As I bow out with a sense of fulfilment, I wish to assure Prof. Yilwatda of my unflinching support, counsel, and brotherly solidarity,” he added.

“I urge all our leaders, governors, lawmakers, and faithful party members across the federation to queue behind him and give him the necessary backing to consolidate on our party’s vision of building a united, progressive, and inclusive political platform for all Nigerians.”

Ganduje concluded with prayers for “divine wisdom and strength” for Yilwatda, noting that he assumes the role at a time of both “opportunity and responsibility.”
