The Lagos State Government has renamed the iconic Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop, sparking mixed reactions online.
The Lagos State Government has officially renamed the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop, in honour of the award-winning rapper Olamide Adedeji, a proud son of the area.
The announcement was made by the outgoing chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Kolade David Alabi, during the commissioning of multiple local projects.

Veteran entertainer and activist Charly Boy, whose real name is Charles Oputa, offered a brief and cryptic response to the change when contacted: “Na dem sabi,” a Pidgin expression loosely meaning, “That’s their business.”
While some interpreted his response as dismissive or sarcastic, others saw it as a sign of indifference or quiet disapproval. Still, Charly Boy has not openly opposed the renaming, despite the fact that the location has long been associated with his name.

Debate quickly erupted online, with some residents and social media users noting that “Charly Boy Bus Stop” may never have been an officially recognized name. Critics claim the entertainer named the stop after himself without formal approval from authorities.
The renaming has stirred discussions about legacy, public recognition, and whether political considerations influenced the decision. While many have applauded the move as a fitting tribute to Olamide’s impact on Nigerian music and culture, others see it as a symbolic erasure of Charly Boy’s influence in the area.
