The 2025 Detty December season appears to have pushed Lagos beyond its limits, as viral clips of gridlocked traffic across the city continue to dominate social media and spark widespread reactions online.

With Detty December in full swing, Lagos has once again become the top destination for the “I Just Got Back” (IJGB) crowd — Nigerians in the diaspora returning from countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, and across Europe to enjoy the festive season at home.

For many returnees, Lagos remains the first stop, largely due to its vibrant nightlife, high-energy clubbing, luxury restaurants, beaches, resorts, and numerous end-of-year events.

A popular Nigerian photographer and videographer on Instagram, identified as @theniyifagbemi, recently shared a video capturing the current state of Lagos traffic, and the footage quickly raised eyebrows online.

“Lagos is officially getting full 🙏🏽 😅 When they ask you how your December in Lagos is going, please show them this video. Ps. Batch C is still on the way 💃.”

The post triggered massive engagement as many Lagos residents and visitors related to the growing congestion.

Popular blogger Linda Ikeji also shared an aerial view of Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, filmed from the Oriental Hotel on the morning of December 20, 2025, further highlighting the traffic situation.

Additional clips showing traffic congestion in Lekki Phase 1 and Phase 2 have also surfaced online, adding to the growing conversation around Lagos being “overloaded” this festive season.
