KWAM 1 Allegedly Defies Airport Rules

Fuji legend KWAM 1 is under fire after allegedly attempting to board a ValueJet flight in Abuja with alcohol and exhibiting unruly behavior.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed an incident involving legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, which nearly resulted in a serious safety breach and has now led to the suspension of two ValueJet pilots.

According to a statement released by FAAN, the altercation occurred during boarding procedures for ValueJet Flight VK 201 from Abuja to Lagos. Preliminary investigations revealed that KWAM 1 attempted to board the flight with an unidentified liquid substance in a flask, in violation of aviation security regulations that prohibit liquids exceeding 100ml, except when medically necessary and properly declared.

Despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain, the passenger refused to comply. FAAN explained that when asked to step aside for further clarification, the musician became confrontational and allegedly poured the contents of the flask—later confirmed to be alcohol—on both an airport officer and the captain.

Following this, he was deboarded from the flight. However, in a dramatic turn of events, KWAM 1 reportedly stood in front of the aircraft, attempting to prevent it from taking off. According to eyewitnesses, the pilot proceeded to taxi the aircraft, narrowly missing the musician by inches.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has since reacted, confirming that it has received detailed reports of a serious breach of safety protocol by the flight crew. The authority stated that the ValueJet pilot and co-pilot failed to adhere to mandatory pre-departure clearance protocols, thereby endangering ground personnel and violating international aviation safety standards.

As a result, the licenses of the captain, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and First Officer Ivan Oloba have been suspended with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a full investigation.

NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, described the situation as “a reckless action that endangered lives” and reaffirmed the Authority’s zero-tolerance stance on safety violations.

In a separate statement, ValueJet confirmed the incident, acknowledging its seriousness. The airline disclosed that the affected crew members have been immediately removed from active duty, pending an internal investigation.

“At ValueJet, safety is not negotiable. We operate under strict regulatory compliance and remain committed to accountability across all levels,” the airline stated.

Meanwhile, FAAN has hinted at placing KWAM 1 on a national No-Fly List, citing security concerns. The agency emphasized its commitment to the safety and operational integrity of Nigeria’s airports, warning that it will not tolerate behavior that threatens aviation standards.

“The Authority is investigating all parties involved and will ensure appropriate action is taken in line with the law,” FAAN said.

This developing story has sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many calling for stricter enforcement of aviation rules—regardless of status or celebrity.
