Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim says he’s “suffering more than the fans” after a 3-0 derby loss to Manchester City, insisting he won’t change his tactics despite a rocky start to the season.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admitted he is feeling the pain of his team’s struggles more than the supporters after Sunday’s 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City.

The Red Devils have endured a rocky start to the season, collecting just four points from four Premier League games and already being knocked out of the League Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby. Since taking charge in November, Amorim has won only eight of 31 league matches, with United finishing 15th last season.

Despite mounting pressure, Amorim insisted he will not change his preferred 3-4-3 formation, saying:

“I understand that and I accept it. It’s not a record that you should have in Manchester United. I’m not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the men (players)… I play my way and I’m going to play my way until I want to change.”

The Portuguese coach, backed by a £200-million investment in new forwards, admitted the situation is frustrating but pledged his full commitment:

“My message is that I’m going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club. Until I’m here, I will do my best. I really want to win games. I’m suffering more than them (the fans).”

Manchester United had gone into the derby above City in the table for the first time in five years, but Pep Guardiola’s side proved too strong. City remain six points behind leaders Liverpool, with Guardiola hopeful the win can spark momentum:

“Winning games, especially in the derby, you see the faces of our fans, the joy, the happiness after the game, always it helps. We have to improve, but victories give confidence.”
