Justice Musa Liman has sent Nnamdi Kanu’s medical request back to the Chief Judge for reassignment as the court’s vacation ends.

Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, on Monday “sent back to the chief judge” a motion filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, seeking reassignment of his case.

Mr. Kanu, in the “motion ex parte,” asked the court to order his transfer to the Abuja National Hospital for urgent medical attention.

In a brief ruling, Justice Liman directed that the “case file be referred to the registry for reassignment,” after Kanu’s counsel, Uchenna Njoku, applied for the transfer, noting that the court’s annual vacation would end the same day. Counsel for the State Security Service (SSS), Adegboyega Awomolo, did not oppose the application.

The judge explained that under Section 46(8) of the Federal High Court Rules, cases not concluded during vacation must be referred to the Chief Judge. He further stated that while the application was urgent due to health concerns, it was “filed late.”

Kanu’s lawyers argue that his health is “seriously deteriorating,” citing medical reports that indicate problems with his liver, pancreas, and a lump under his armpit, and urged his transfer to the National Hospital.

The matter will now await fresh reassignment by the Chief Judge for further hearing.
