  • The Federal Government has announced the theme for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
  • Activities will begin with a Juma’at Prayer on September 26, followed by an inter-denominational church service on September 28, and a World Press Conference on September 29.

The Federal Government has announced the theme and programmes for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, which will be celebrated on October 1, 2025.

Tagged “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” the theme was revealed in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on Wednesday via X.

According to the statement, the theme highlights the importance of unity, collaboration, and patriotism among all sectors and “citizenry towards building a nation characterised by sustainable peace, prosperity and progress.”

Imohiosen outlined that activities will begin with religious observances. “As part of activities to mark the 65th Independence Anniversary, the Juma’at Prayer and the Inter-Denominational Church Service will be held on Friday, 26th September at 1 pm and Sunday, 28th September at 10 am respectively, as well as the World Press Conference on Monday, 29th September at 10 am,” he said.

He further explained that the programmes “align with the official theme to ensure the message resonates in all areas of our collective national endeavours in the actualisation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Independence Day, marked annually on October 1, commemorates Nigeria’s freedom from the United Kingdom in 1960 and is observed nationwide with official ceremonies, military parades, cultural events, and public celebrations.
