EXCLUSIVE: Tinubu Under Pressure to Drop Wike as APC Elders Push for Alliance with Fubara

• President Bola Tinubu is reportedly considering dropping FCT Minister Nyesom Wike following mounting pressure from APC elders to realign with Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of 2027.

• Insiders say Wike’s confrontational style and public remarks have become political liabilities, prompting quiet moves within the presidency to review his future in the cabinet.

Sources also revealed that members of the Lagos APC Governance Advisory Council (GAC) have advised Tinubu to realign politically with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The elders reportedly told the president that Wike had become a political baggage and could harm the administration’s image and electoral chances in the South-South region.

One prominent Lagos elder, aged 88 and known as one of Tinubu’s longest-serving confidants, reportedly told the president during a private meeting:

“It’s time to do away with Wike and work with Fubara instead. The governor has shown patience and restraint even in the face of provocation.”

The elder also warned that alienating Fubara, an Ijaw native, could send a wrong signal to riverine communities in the Niger Delta.

Presidency divided on Wike’s future

While Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, is reportedly opposed to sidelining Wike, insiders say Tinubu is seriously considering the elders’ advice.

“The president is beginning to see the wisdom in the argument,” a senior official disclosed.
“He has already asked one of the presidency’s senior evaluators to prepare a report on Wike’s performance.”

The report will form part of a possible ministerial review expected before Tinubu’s third anniversary in office next year.

According to one source, there are already plans to “ease Wike out” of office using the growing number of petitions alleging financial misconduct and abuse of power as grounds.

“The president has ordered a discreet investigation to verify these claims and build a case that could make Wike’s resignation appear inevitable,” the source added.
