‘If He Comes Out Today, Their Political Careers Will End Permanently’ — Iwuanyanwu Names Those Backing Kanu’s Continued Detention

- ZLP chairman Dan Iwuanyanwu alleges that powerful South-East politicians and businessmen are backing Nnamdi Kanu’s detention to protect their political interests.
The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Dan Iwuanyanwu, has alleged that some influential politicians and businessmen in Nigeria’s South-East region are deliberately supporting the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Iwuanyanwu claimed that these powerful figures fear Kanu’s “organic” popularity and the deep affection many people in the region have for him, which they see as a direct threat to their political careers and economic dominance.

“There are some top businessmen who are involved in businesses in Abuja, oil and all that,” Iwuanyanwu said. “There are some top politicians who are of the view — and which is correct — that if Nnamdi Kanu comes today, there are people whose political career will come to an end permanently without him saying a word. Nnamdi Kanu has been loved by the people.”

Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, remains a central figure in discussions about Biafra agitation and regional autonomy. His prolonged detention continues to fuel calls for a political solution from both regional and national stakeholders.
