  • The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose, suspended National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and several other top figures in a sweeping decision taken at its national convention in Ibadan on Saturday.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken the boldest disciplinary decision in its recent history, expelling several prominent members — including Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory; Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s suspended National Secretary; and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose.

The dramatic purge was announced on Saturday during the PDP’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where delegates gathered to take decisive action on issues affecting the party’s stability and direction.

Their expulsion did not occur in isolation. A long list of other top party figures also fell under the hammer. Among them were Umar Bature, Ajibade Kamarudeen, Mao Ohabunwa, Uwachukwu, George Turner, Dan Orbih, Mohammed Abdulrahman, Austin Nwachukwu, and Abraham Amah.

The motion to expel the affected members was moved by Olabode George, former national vice-chairman (South), a longstanding PDP heavyweight who argued that the drastic measure was necessary for the party’s discipline and survival. The motion was immediately seconded by Samaila Buga, the PDP chairman in Bauchi State.

Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, subsequently put the motion to a voice vote — which passed without resistance, sealing the fate of the expelled members.

The decision marks a significant turning point for the PDP as it attempts to reassert party discipline, restructure its internal leadership, and reposition ahead of future political contests.
