- Benjamin Kalu says a political solution is now in motion to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom, assuring Nigerians that “all hope is not lost” despite the IPOB leader’s life sentence.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has said that prospects remain bright for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), despite Thursday’s life imprisonment verdict issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kalu explained that a political solution—previously stalled because the matter was still in court—is now being actively pursued to secure Kanu’s freedom.

He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will heed appeals from prominent Igbo leaders seeking a negotiated resolution, noting that the President “is not averse” to such interventions.

Calling for calm across the South East and the country at large, Kalu reassured citizens that efforts are ongoing behind the scenes.
“It is now time to explore political solutions that had been hindered because the matter was before the court. But now that the court has finished, it is time to intensify requests for the President’s intervention, and we are sure that the President is not averse to it.
“We are going to get it. All hope is not lost. Our people should remain calm,” he said.
