- Aloy Ejimakor has alleged that Nnamdi Kanu has been transferred from DSS custody in Abuja to a prison facility in Sokoto, sparking concern over access to his legal team and relative.
Aloy Ejimakor, the former special counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has claimed that the convicted agitator has been moved to a correctional facility in Sokoto State.
Ejimakor disclosed this on Friday in a post shared via his X handle.
“Breaking: MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS (SSS) Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and well-wishers,” he wrote.

In another post, Ejimakor urged Igbo people to remain calm in response to the development. Igbo is the dominant ethnic group in the South-east, where Mr Kanu hails from.
The lawyer also questioned the rationale behind relocating Kanu to a prison in Sokoto, arguing that the government should have considered a more neutral region.

He referenced the case of the late Obafemi Awolowo, former premier of the Western Region, who was moved to the Eastern Region after his conviction for sedition in 1963.

“When Awolowo was convicted in 1963, he was sent to the East, a neutral zone in his feud with the North. President (Bola) Tinubu can still halt this drift,” Ejimakor said.
Awolowo was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on sedition charges but received a state pardon in 1966 following a change of government.
Efforts to get comments from the spokesperson of the State Security Service, Favour Dozie, were unsuccessful, as calls and a text message sent to her went unanswered.
