The Lagos State Government has begun clearance operations along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway to remove illegal structures and restore the free flow of traffic along the busy corridor.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Monday in a statement shared via his official X handle.

According to Wahab, the exercise commenced at Alakija in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area and progressed through Iyana Iba. He said the operation is currently ongoing opposite Lagos State University (LASU), with active enforcement also taking place at Alaba Market, all within Ojo Local Government Area.

Wahab explained that the operation is being carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Agency (LAGESC), working in collaboration with other enforcement teams from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.

“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Agency, in collaboration with other enforcement teams of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, have commenced clearance operations at Alakija,” Wahab said.

The clearance exercise comes amid a series of similar enforcement actions across Lagos in recent months, including operations along the Jakande Coastal Road and the arrest of beggars along the Lekki–Epe Expressway.

According to the commissioner, the latest operation forms part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve environmental sanitation, enhance traffic flow and enforce compliance with environmental and urban planning regulations along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.
