A faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reiterated that the sit-at-home protest scheduled for today, Monday, February 2, is in effect, dismissing reports suggesting that the action has been cancelled or disowned by the group.

In a clarification statement released early Monday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful described claims of a withdrawal as “lies and falsehoods,” accusing unnamed government agents and political actors of attempting to confuse the public and weaken solidarity with the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The statement rejected pronouncements credited to Ifeanyi Ejiofor, insisting that he no longer represents Kanu or speaks for IPOB, having been removed from that role more than two years ago. According to the group, Ejiofor therefore lacks the authority to call off or comment on the sit-at-home.

Emma Powerful further alleged that some individuals within IPOB’s Directorate of State (DOS) had compromised the struggle by holding meetings with Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, allegedly aimed at undermining the support shown by traders in Onitsha Main Market for Kanu’s release.

The spokesperson also dismissed reports circulating online about his resignation or claims questioning his existence, describing them as fabricated and politically motivated. He maintained that attempts to exploit his temporary absence from the public space were part of a broader strategy to divert attention from Kanu’s continued detention.

Reaffirming IPOB’s stance, the statement urged residents across the South-East to disregard what it termed misinformation and comply with the sit-at-home directive holding today. It added that media engagements, including radio and television interviews, would be used to further clarify the group’s position.

At the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the Anambra State Government or the individuals mentioned in the statement.
