- IPOB has issued an internal memo calling for global support for Nnamdi Kanu’s medical treatment and legal defence, urging unity among members and announcing an upcoming “major international development.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has circulated an internal memorandum calling for coordinated global support for its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, focusing on his medical treatment and legal defence.
The memo, dated February 13 and signed by IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, was addressed to “ALL IPOB FAMILY WORLDWIDE (DOS), COORDINATORS, UNIT LEADERS, AND MEMBERS” with a directive to “CIRCULATE IMMEDIATELY.”
Under the heading “GLOBAL SUPPORT INITIATIVE FOR ONYENDU MAZI NNAMDI KANU — MEDICAL & LEGAL INTERVENTION,” the statement said the communication was to formally notify members of “a matter of urgent collective responsibility: the coordinated global support effort for the medical treatment and legal defence of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”
According to the memo, “Prior to his sentencing on 20 November 2025, Onyendu appeared physically weakened during court appearances and personally appealed that the IPOB family worldwide should support the organisations that have consistently stood with him throughout this ordeal.”
The statement listed three groups allegedly endorsed for support: “American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), Ambassadors for Self-Determination, Rising Sun Foundation,” noting that “These organisations have shouldered medical, diplomatic and legal responsibilities for years on behalf of the movement.”
Explaining the urgency, the memo stated that following Kanu’s transfer to Sokoto prison, “maintaining legal and medical access has become significantly more expensive,” citing travel costs for lawyers and his lead physician based in Abuja. It added, “The financial strain is deliberate. The global IPOB family must now neutralize it through coordinated support.”
On his health, the memo claimed, “Onyendu continues to battle serious medical complications arising from his rendition ordeal,” listing “Chronic potassium depletion, Congestive heart complications, Persistent tinnitus from head trauma sustained during abduction.”
The statement further conveyed what it described as a “UNITY DIRECTIVE FROM ONYENDU,” saying, “The worldwide family must rally behind this initiative,” and that “All infighting must cease immediately.” It also urged members to remain vigilant “against misinformation and psychological operations.”

In what it termed an “IMPORTANT STRATEGIC NOTICE,” the memo announced that “a major international development will be announced next week Wednesday,” adding that the event would “demonstrate the progress of ongoing global diplomatic engagements and confirm that the struggle has entered a decisive phase.”
Members were instructed to circulate fundraising information, “Encourage voluntary participation,” “Counter misinformation calmly,” and “Strengthen unity across all structures.”
The memo concluded with a strong appeal for solidarity: “Let us stand firm and act as one family,” adding, “Our enemies have penetrated and compromised our structural discipline from within. But Onyendu said we must remain strong and faithful to our ideals.”
