The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has commended American public affairs analyst Mark Arnold and some members of the United States Congress for what it described as a bold intervention on Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

In a statement issued on March 26, 2026, and signed by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group said the comments by the US figures helped draw global attention to ongoing violence in parts of the country. IPOB alleged that attacks on communities across regions such as the Middle Belt, Southern Kaduna, Plateau, and Benue highlight what it called a deepening national crisis.

The group also reiterated its support for its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, claiming that his past warnings about Nigeria’s instability are being validated by current events. IPOB further maintained that the South-East remains relatively secure due to the activities of its Eastern Security Network, though this claim has been widely disputed by authorities.

Reaffirming its long-standing position, IPOB insisted that a peaceful, internationally supervised referendum is the only viable solution to address agitation for self-determination in the region. The group warned that failure to adopt such a political solution could worsen tensions and accelerate instability.

IPOB also urged its supporters and the international community to intensify advocacy efforts, stating that Nigeria, as presently structured, faces significant challenges that require urgent and decisive action.
