The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong directive to its members across the globe, urging strict focus on three major objectives aimed at securing the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and advancing the agitation for Biafra restoration.

In a public briefing released on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and signed by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group emphasized what it described as “uncompromising focus” on key issues, warning members against distractions.
According to the statement, IPOB said it has successfully resisted multiple attempts by alleged infiltrators seeking to destabilize the movement from within.

The group accused the Nigerian government and its “colonial masters” of orchestrating a long-standing plot since 2016 to weaken its structure by planting loyalists and exploiting internal divisions.
The pro-Biafra group further alleged that such tactics were previously used to fragment the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), but insisted similar efforts have failed against IPOB due to its unity and resilience.

IPOB maintained that the continued detention of its leader has created opportunities for “opportunistic individuals” to attempt to assume control, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated.

The group, therefore, directed all members worldwide to concentrate solely on three key areas:

  • Intensifying global campaigns and rallies demanding the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu
  • Expanding diplomatic efforts across continents to promote the call for an independent Biafra
  • Organizing activities to commemorate the May 30, 2026 Heroes Remembrance Day

The statement warned that any discussions, social media posts, or activities not aligned with these objectives would be regarded as acts of sabotage.

IPOB added that such content would be ignored moving forward.
The directive, which took effect from 6:00 pm on Tuesday, also stated that individuals or groups unwilling to comply with the new focus are free to leave the movement and form their own organizations.

Reaffirming its stance, IPOB declared its loyalty to its detained leader and reiterated its commitment to achieving Biafra restoration, stating that “the restoration is near.”

The group also copied its message to all zonal, regional, and state coordinators, affiliates, and global media outlets.
