Suspected terrorists on Monday morning attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa town, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting several students who were sitting for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) organised by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
According to reports, the gunmen stormed the school while the examination was in progress, causing panic among students and teachers.
During the attack, one teacher was reportedly killed, while another sustained injuries.
The exact number of students abducted remains unclear as rescue efforts and security operations continue in the area.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, said several students are still unaccounted for.
The latest attack has once again raised concerns over the safety of schools and students in Nigeria’s North-East, where educational institutions have repeatedly come under attack by terrorist groups.
