The semi-final fixtures for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been confirmed following the conclusion of the quarter-final stage, setting up two blockbuster clashes featuring four of football’s biggest nations.
Defending champions Argentina booked the final spot in the last four after defeating 10-man Switzerland 3-1 after extra time on Saturday. Lionel Messi provided an assist, while Julian Alvarez’s stunning long-range strike and Lautaro Martinez’s late goal secured victory for the South Americans.
England also needed extra time to progress, with Jude Bellingham scoring twice in a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Norway in Miami. The Real Madrid midfielder continued his sensational tournament, leading the Three Lions into the semi-finals.
France became the first nation to qualify after overcoming Morocco 2-0 on Thursday, while Spain sealed their place with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Belgium on Friday.
The results have now produced two heavyweight semi-final encounters, with France taking on Spain, while England will renew their historic rivalry with Argentina in a World Cup knockout match for the first time since 2002.
Only four teams remain in the race to lift football’s biggest prize, with the winners advancing to the final scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey.
