According to reports, United decided not to proceed with the Éderson transfer despite an agreement in principle, with speculation suggesting concerns over the deal prompted the club to pursue Tielemans instead.

The Belgian international is available for £35 million due to a release clause in his Aston Villa contract, making him a similarly priced but proven alternative.

Tielemans has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent midfielders, making nearly 250 league appearances since arriving in England in 2019. He first impressed at Leicester City before joining Aston Villa, where he has played a key role in the club’s recent rise.

The 28-year-old is renowned for his passing ability, ball-winning qualities and long-range shooting, having also scored the winning goal in Leicester City’s historic 2021 FA Cup final triumph.

Should the deal be completed, Tielemans would strengthen Manchester United’s midfield alongside recent signing Andrey Santos, as the club continues to build its squad ahead of the new season.

With Bruno Fernandes already occupying the iconic No. 8 shirt at Old Trafford, Tielemans is expected to choose from several available squad numbers, including 14, 17, 18, 20 and 21, among others.

Manchester United are yet to officially confirm the transfer, but negotiations are said to be progressing positively.
