- The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released activists Randy Peter and Mama Pee after subjecting them to hours of questioning at its Abuja headquarters.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released activists Randy Peter and Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, after both honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency at its Abuja headquarters.
The two activists were released shortly after midnight on Wednesday following several hours of questioning and were instructed to return to the commission’s office on Thursday.
The development was confirmed by fellow activist Justice Cracks, who accompanied the pair to the EFCC headquarters.
“My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee__ were invited by the EFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day,” he wrote on X.
According to him, the activists spent about 11 hours at the commission before they were allowed to leave.
“They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine,” he added.
Justice Cracks also shared a video from the EFCC headquarters while waiting for the duo to conclude their engagement with officials.
Concerns grew over prolonged stay
Earlier in the day, concerns spread across social media after Esther Umoh, who served as a photographer during Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, disclosed that the activists had remained inside the EFCC office hours after honouring the invitation.
“@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria were invited by the EFCC in Abuja, and as respectful citizens, they honoured the invitation today. But as I type this, they are yet to be released by the commission,” she posted on X.
The prolonged questioning fuelled speculation online that the activists had been arrested.
However, Justice Cracks later confirmed that both had been released and were directed to report back to the EFCC headquarters on Thursday.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not publicly disclosed the reason for inviting the two activists.
